Do I Have to Provide a Salary History?
If you do not want to let an employer take decision in haste in regard to the selection process by throwing your job application into dustbin, you will have to apply a prudence before penning down your salary history.
Although the employer manages to fathom the experience, efficiency and quality of the candidate, it deeply concentrates on the remuneration or salary-package offered by his previous salary. There are two motives of introspecting the salary by Companies. One of measuring the depth of knowledge, experience and efficiency. Two of negotiating the salary. Every organization, where on the one side selects highly expert and professional candidates, it bargains over fixing their salary as less as possible. Only after coming across the urgency of the professional candidate’s appointment does any Company accept the demand of high salary matching with the skill and salary in the respective industry.
It is needed to be conveyed to the candidates drawing high salary that they should not be too enthusiastic in revealing their high salary history with expectation that revealing their salary history will fetch them more salary in a new Company. They can not be considered for the job provided new Company’s financial budget for salary is not up to the expected mark. Candidate can miss a Golden opportunity of joining a popular Company only due to mentioning a package which the Company is not going to pay. It has been seen that large number of candidates aspire to serve a popular Company even at less salary, only to excel in the field which they think can be accomplished by entering a very popular Organization.
So revealing the salary history even for an experienced and high-salary-paid candidate is not conducive. High-salary-paid candidates rather should leave their salary-related-revelation to be deliberated upon during the Interview, as neither it will deprive the candidate from an opportunity of working in the same Company of highest popularity, nor will it retrench the amount of salary being drawn currently by him in his current organization.
